Early life trauma and its long term effects aren’t foreign to me. I can identify with the anxiety, fear, shame and low self esteem associated with overwhelming life events and circumstances. Very early in life I wanted to understand the nature of trauma. My personal journey with therapy, as well as being in connection and service to others has contributed significantly to my growth and healing. The past 7 years have been dedicated to helping clients heal from the debilitating effects of trauma and its associated symptoms including anxiety, depression, grief, fears and phobias, sleep issues and nightmares. I use EMDR with clients every day as an effective way to identify and rewire negative core beliefs acquired throughout life. Even without identifiable traumatic experiences, our brains and bodies will nudge us toward a yearning for psychological wellness. We can learn to rewire our thinking to self-supportive and affirming beliefs and start living the life we’ve always wanted for ourselves. Healing is possible.

Grief and loss are universal experiences. The way we are able to cope with loss depends on many factors including the nature of the loss and the degree to which we are equipped to manage the multitude of thoughts and emotions that can arise. Depression arises when we become stuck or immobile emotionally, and can occur for many reasons. Therapy will address factors that contribute to complex grief and/or depression and work to lift the fog and begin to feel hope for happiness again.

Anxiety, fear, and panic can make us feel like prisoners to the whims of our body. It can feel paralyzing, and prevent us from enjoying life and the people we love. Anxiety always accompanies trauma, and is often present with depression. It has other origins as well and therapy will uncover those factors and work to manage dysregulation through methods such as Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Awareness, Internal Family systems (IFS), and EMDR. Every person is unique and therapeutic strategies can vary widely.

Life is about change, and challenges are inevitable. Stressful life changes can include separation and divorce, the loss of employment or beginning a new job. Young adults transitioning to college or the work force, and their parents adjusting to a new life at home, often seek counseling support. I have spent decades working with seniors and their families navigating transitions and adjustments including adults and seniors with physical/medical challenges. Seniors facing decisions about transitioning to higher levels of living/care for themself and/or their spouse are often in need of objective and supportive space to voice concerns and learn ways to manage the multitude of emotions that often accompany this stage of life. Therapy can help minimize the struggle.

Whether navigating issues related to the choice to be childfree, issues of infertility, pregnancy, abortion, antepartum and postpartum anxiety/depression, or navigating the often perplexing world of menopause, all women deserve to be seen, heard, and understood. My personal life and professional journey has afforded me the gift of experience and insight into these deeply personal times in a women’s life. The strain can be overwhelming. Let’s work together to navigate these common struggles of womanhood and ease the discomfort felt during these periods of life.
